Ferdaws joins me for one of our more personal and introspective conversations. The undefeated 7-0 Canadian pro talks about growing up in Afghanistan, his family's journey to Canada, discovering combat sports and the experiences that shaped the fighter — and person — he is today.
Now he heads to Pennsylvania looking to keep that perfect record intact.
🥊 Hannah Taylor & Charlene Barkhouse — the fight that almost was.
Former Canadian Olympic wrestler Hannah Taylor was scheduled to meet BJJ black belt Charlene Barkhouse at FLA 26 in what was one of the most intriguing matchups on the card.
Unfortunately, Hannah was forced to withdraw due to injury after both interviews had been recorded.
I'm keeping both conversations in Episode 23. You'll hear exactly where each woman was mentally just days before they were supposed to meet, Hannah's transition from elite wrestling into MMA, and Charlene's preparation for her professional debut.
Hopefully we eventually get to see this matchup. For now, we wish Hannah a speedy recovery.
⚔️ Luc de Ste Croix vs. Allan Ruiz — FLA 26
Luc de Ste Croix is 3-0 as a professional and is beginning to make a serious push toward becoming a full-time fighter.
Training at Tower 1 MMA under Gavin Tucker, Luc faces the experienced and durable Allan Ruiz this weekend at FLA 26 in Pictou, Nova Scotia.

At just 18 years old, the Tristar MMA prospect is already 2-0 as a professional.
Edwyn joins me following his victory at Unified MMA 69, where he ended the fight with a vicious liver shot with only four seconds remaining in the opening round. We also talk about his development at Tristar and what it's like getting the opportunity to train alongside Georges St-Pierre.

🔥 ALANA “THE ALANAMAL” COOK — OKTAGON MMA DEBUT
We kick things off with Alana Cook, who recently signed with OKTAGON MMA and is in the Czech Republic preparing to make her promotional debut.
Alana talks about how the OKTAGON opportunity came together, her move from British Columbia to Niagara Top Team, the resurgence of women's MMA in the Lower Mainland, training alongside UFC contender Jasmine Jasudavicius, and her thoughts on Olympic wrestler and MMA prospect Hannah Taylor.
With OKTAGON boasting a deep women's roster in Europe, Alana has a massive opportunity to make a statement in her first appearance with the promotion.
🥋 MICHAEL DUFORT & RICHARD HO — SAMOURAI MMA 21
Next, we head to Laval following an outstanding performance from Michael Dufort, who submitted Antoine Chaput in the Samourai MMA 21 main event.
Dufort dropped Chaput with a calf kick before chaining together submission attempts and eventually finding the finish with a nasty Kimura.
After the fight, I sat down with Michael and his coach Richard Ho to discuss the performance, Dufort's continued development, and the team at H2O that Richard has built around some of Canada's top MMA talent.
💥 MO ADO — 25-SECOND KNOCKOUT
Mohammed “Mo” Ado needed just 25 seconds of the first round to knock out Mac Laursen in their welterweight contender matchup.
Ado joins the show immediately after the fight to break down the finish and what comes next.
The victory puts Mo in position to challenge Ian Stoby for the Samourai MMA Welterweight Championship — a matchup that has all the ingredients for an incredible fight.
🤝 MO ADO & MAC LAURSEN — TOGETHER AFTER THE FIGHT
Then something a little different.
After interviewing Mo, I ran into Mac Laursen on my way out and asked if he wanted to talk.
His answer? Let's do it with Mo.
So just moments after competing against each other, Ado and Laursen sit down together to talk about the fight.
It's the kind of respect and sportsmanship that makes MMA special.
A SPECIAL NIGHT FOR MM-EH
Samourai MMA 21 also gave me one of the most unexpected and meaningful moments I've experienced covering Canadian MMA.
Samourai owner Daniel Lafond and the promotion surprised me during the live UFC Fight Pass broadcast by bringing me into the cage and unveiling a permanent tribute on one of the cage posts recognizing me as:
“Canadian MMA Pioneer — Andy Cotterill”
I didn't see it coming, and it's difficult to put into words how much the gesture meant to me.
Thank you to Daniel Lafond and everyone at Samourai MMA for their continued support of MM-EH — and, more importantly, for everything they continue to do for mixed martial arts in Quebec and Canada.

Hey there, fight friends! Welcome to Episode 20 of The MM-EH Show — the show where we talk about Canadian mixed martial arts and ONLY Canadian mixed martial arts.
This week we have four very different conversations, from a huge all-Quebec lightweight title fight to one fighter facing a fight far bigger than anything that happens inside a cage.
🥊 MICHAEL DUFORT
Samourai MMA Lightweight Champion Michael Dufort joins me ahead of his fourth title defence, this time against fellow Quebec standout Antoine Chaput in Laval.
Michael talks about the unusual road that brought these two together — including Antoine previously telling him he didn't want to fight him before later calling him out — and why Michael accepts that being the champion means having a target on his back.
We get into the changes he's made to his training as he's gotten older: less unnecessary volume, more intensity, better recovery and more time with his family. Michael says the result has been an easier weight cut and that he feels like an absolute beast heading into the fight.And, of course, we talk about his relentless social-media campaign to get the attention of Dana White and the UFC. With UFC Edmonton looming, Michael looks at this fight and asks a pretty simple question:
Why not me?
And yes... I asked him about the jigsaw puzzle. 😂
🥊 ANTOINE CHAPUT
Then we hear the other side of one of the most intriguing fights in Canadian MMA.
Antoine Chaput is the man who called out Michael Dufort, and he isn't backing away from it.
Antoine explains exactly what he has seen in Dufort that made him believe this was a fight he could win. He believes the champion has shown weaknesses, can be predictable and isn't going to surprise him once that cage door closes.
We also dig into the work Antoine has put in to prepare for Dufort's grappling. His camp has taken him outside his usual surroundings, including regular trips to Fight Factory in Ottawa and even a trip to New York, searching out the specific challenges he believes will prepare him to take the belt.
Healthy. Fast. Precise. Prepared.
Antoine doesn't see this fight going any other way.
🥊 VALENTYN BULAT
Next up is Valentyn Bulat, joining The MM-EH Show for a conversation about his own journey through Canadian MMA, the work behind the fighter people see when he steps into the cage, and what he believes comes next.
We talk about his development, his mentality, the challenges he's faced and the ambitions that continue driving him forward.
Another Canadian fighter with a story worth knowing — and exactly the kind of story The MM-EH Show exists to tell.
🥊 JOHN MOORE
Finally, the tone changes completely.
John Moore joins me to talk about the biggest fight of his life.
After dealing with extreme fatigue and a persistent cough, doctors discovered a mass in John's chest and an enormous buildup of fluid around his heart. After further testing and a biopsy, John received the diagnosis: Hodgkin's lymphoma.
John talks openly about undergoing chemotherapy, how being physically fit going into treatment has helped him cope, and how he's still finding ways to train while respecting the limitations placed on him by treatment.
Perhaps most fittingly for a lifelong martial artist, John has approached cancer almost like another fight camp — keeping his diet clean, training when his body allows it, preparing himself for each treatment and then turning his attention toward the next one.
It's a candid conversation about cancer, chemotherapy, physical fitness, mindset and what it means to keep fighting when the opponent isn't standing across from you in a cage.
Four Canadians. Four stories. One show dedicated entirely to Canadian MMA.
